The consumable bundle feature has been released!
After announcing the consumable bundles addition in last week's devlog #477 and the corresponding release notes topic on the forums, we received a lot of feedback.
Players were quick to point out that the amount of packaging material we included in the bundles' recipes was too high. Especially regarding the pioneer and settler bundles. So we decided to reduce the necessary amount of packaging materials and also not only rely on PSS
, but PE
for the lower-tier bundles. We have chosen PSS
as packaging material because we think it is a rather underused material and having a few more recipes can't hurt.
The question came up how we envision the bundles to be used. We think that they offer an option to choose between buying and shipping the necessary consumables for your bases yourself, and paying a price for the convenience to have to buy only one or two items. We don't think it makes much sense (in most cases) to buy all the necessary consumables, package them and then ship them to your own bases. Although we reduced the bundle sizes, so they’re slightly smaller and lighter than the sum of all contained consumables, the overhead of running a PAC
production line is too great. In that case, you’re most likely better off just sending off the individual items.
That is also why we didn't redesign the PAC
building or allow to create bundles without it.
There also have been some cool ideas how to remove the manual step of unpacking via the UPCK
command. We do see the value in that, but having the command enables a maximum of flexibility. We internally discussed future options that would allow defining certain rules to automatically unpack, but we want to see how the feature turns out first.
We want to thank all of you who contributed to the discussion of the consumable bundles feature!
